Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management student Leon Oswald has received the Student Excellence Award at the 2026 Hospitality & Tourism Awards, presented by the Newcastle Tourism Industry Group.
Leon was presented with his award by the Lord Mayor of Newcastle at a ceremony attended by leaders of the hospitality and tourism industry from across Newcastle and the Hunter region.

From new student to award winner in one year
Leon started his hospitality journey when he enrolled at Hunter in April 2025. He quickly picked up work at our own hotel, Rydges Newcastle, and has gone from strength to strength – becoming a shining example of what a dedicated Hunter student and high-flying hospitality professional looks like.
His trainer, Jeff, joined him at the awards and couldn’t be prouder:
“Leon has been a joy to teach, and watching him develop into a confident, rising superstar of the industry has been a great privilege. He has a great career ahead of him!”
