PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Diploma of Travel & Tourism Management (SIT50122) prepares you for management roles in various sectors of the travel and tourism industry, including travel agencies, tour operators, holiday parks, tourist attractions and more. The course covers topics such as business operations, staff management, financial management and providing visitor information. You will also learn about researching and analysing tourism data and providing advice on international and Australian destinations.

The course includes a mix of theoretical and practical components, such as case studies, group projects, and industry guest speakers, to ensure that students are well-prepared for the workforce and able to apply their knowledge in real-world situations.

Program Length
This program is delivered over 52 weeks which is made up of four academic terms of 1020 contact hours.

Who is this course for?

The Diploma of Travel & Tourism Management is designed for learners who wish to embark on a future career in tourism, whether as an independent operator or as part of a tour company.

Study schedule / delivery mode

The program will be delivered over a period of fifty-two (52) weeks (inclusive of holidays) in a blended training environment through a structured learning program comprising of lectures, presentations, case studies, projects, group discussion forums, mentoring and an industry placement. Classes will be scheduled between the hours of 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.

Entry Requirements

  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • All applicants must have completed Year 11 (or equivalent).
  • International applicants must have an IELTS 5.5 or equivalent with a minimum of 5.0 in each band.

Facilities and Resources

Our course is delivered at the Rydges Hotel Newcastle, one of the city’s most popular hotels. This offers a real-world learning experience that immerses you in hands-on training.

Additional resources include computer rooms, software, free WIFI, photocopiers and a student lounge. It is a requirement that you bring your own laptop (device) to enhance your learning experience.

Course Resources

Access to the Learning Management System (LMS) which includes class assessments, student workbooks, and extra resources will be provided to students upon enrolment. Students can access test and assessment results and message other students or trainers on the LMS.

Assessments

Competency in units studied in this qualification will be assessed with various methods, including written assessments, knowledge assessments, oral exams, projects, case studies, presentations, and direct observation of role plays and simulations.

Course Completion

Upon successful completion of all units, you will be awarded an AQF5 Diploma of Travel & Tourism Management (SIT50122) from Hunter Education Group. If you do not complete the full qualification, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units for which you have achieved competency.

Recognition of prior learning and credit

Employment Outcomes

After completion of the qualification, graduates would be eligible to obtain employment in a variety of roles within the tourism industry, including but not limited to: Inbound Groups Manager, Inbound Sales Manager, Tour Operations Manager, Marketing Manager, Product development Manager, Reservations Manager, Travel Agency Manager and Sales Manager.
