Hunter Education Group Partners with MIST to Simplify Proof of Funds for Student Visas

MIST Proof of Funds app for Australian student visa applicants

The Australian Government is placing greater scrutiny on whether student visa applicants can genuinely afford their studies. As reported in September 2026, Federal Immigration Minister Tony Burke said checks on applicants’ financial capacity have already increased, particularly for applicants from countries where refusal rates have risen.

That means clear, reliable evidence of funds matters more than ever. To help genuine students meet this requirement, Hunter Education Group has partnered with MIST, a proof-of-funds service for international students coming to Australia.

How MIST proof of funds works

  1. Deposit your funds. You deposit your required living and study funds into a regulated Australian trust account, managed by partners such as Assetora Australia Limited or Perpetual Corporate Trust.
  2. Receive an official statement. MIST generates a verified, tamper-proof Proof of Funds statement that you can submit with your student visa application.
  3. Access your funds after you arrive:
    • Funds can’t be withdrawn for the first 30 days after you arrive in Australia.
    • Your living expenses are then released to you in 12 equal monthly instalments.
    • Any surplus funds become accessible once you’re in the country.
  4. Refund if your visa is refused. If your student visa is declined, your deposited funds are refunded in full (the establishment fee may be non-refundable).

Benefits for international students

  • Clear, verifiable evidence of funds. Shows that your funds are real and accessible, rather than relying on static bank statements – helping you meet the financial and Genuine Student requirements.
  • Fewer requests for extra evidence. A verified statement reduces the chance of being asked for more financial documents because of unclear bank records.
  • Help settling in. The MIST app also connects students with partner services such as an Australian bank account (via Commonwealth Bank), SIM cards, Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) and accommodation.
